Last month, Casa de Misericordia was invited as speakers at St. Augustine Middle School. Thelma Arambula and I had the pleasure of speaking to over 50 girls, grade levels 6th-8th; we discussed several topics – on matters of leadership, self-respect and respecting others. In addition to this, the students learned about some of the services Casa de Misericordia provides and even participated in an activity called “The Mask We Live In”. This activity gave the students a perspective on how others may see them on the outside but showed them to reflect on how they see themselves on the inside and who they truly are. By the end of the activity, the girls were able to share their ideas and expressed that everyone should be treated with respect.
