Valentine’s Day is a time when people show feelings of love, affection and friendship. It is celebrated in many ways worldwide and falls on February 14 each year.
On Wednesday February 12th, Casa de Misericordia and the LBV Education Center hosted their annual Valentine’s Day Event for families and their children. For a second year, firefighters from the Laredo Fire Union 872 very generously donated their time, talent and funds in order to provide our clients with an outdoor cookout. The meal consisted of carne asada tacos, beans, rice and tortillas, along with hot dogs, and Frito pies.
HEB also made a monetary donation for this event and the support of many volunteers like AHEC, TAMIU Lazy Boy Tattoos, and Commissioner Cindy Liendo’s office made this a wonderful family event. Cupcakes, candy bags, arts and crafts stations, games, goodie bags, face painting and even a nail coloring station were all a part of the celebration. Sparky the dog and the fire engine even made a visit so that children could climb in and learn about the important job firefighters have, take pictures and try on gear.
In attendance were over 80+ children and their families.
Special thanks to Trinidad & Cat Lara from Laredo Fire Department for reaching out to us in order to bring this all together.
